These spices and seeds are used in cosmopolitan cuisines as much as in Indian cuisines.

INGREDIENTS: Anise Seed, Cardamom, Cinnamon, Cloves, Star Anise.

Anise Seed (25g / 0.9oz): Used in many different cuisines, including Middle Eastern, Italian, German, Indian and Mexican cooking. Anise seed flavors various shortbreads and cookies, such Biscotti and Peffernusse and other Old World traditional baked goods. Anise seed can be added to potpourri and incense blends.

Cardamom (25g / 0.9oz): Cardamom has such unique flavor and aroma that it's known as the Queen of Spices. More than half of the world's supply finds its way into Indian cuisine, with Scandinavia running a close second in consumption. Cardamom in the pod ensures freshness of the spice seeds inside.

Cinnamon (25g / 0.9oz): In addition to flavoring foods, the smaller size of these cinnamon quills make them perfect for making wreaths and other floral crafts. You can also use these sticks to scent dry or simmering potpourri.

Cloves (25g / 0.9oz): Clove is a spice obtained from the calyx of the undeveloped blossoms of a species of myrtle tree indigenous to the Indonesian Maluku Islands, also known as the Spice Islands. Along with cinnamon, nutmeg and other aromatic spices, clove is used to lend sweet and spicy flavor to various baked goods and beverages. As a cosmetic ingredient, clove provides antiseptic and anti-inflammatory qualities due to the presence of a phenolic compound called eugenol. This compound is a common ingredient in many personal care products, including mouthwash, toothpaste and soap. Coconut oil infused with clove and combined with beeswax forms a good base for skin salves. Similarly, clove-infused safflower oil makes an excellent all-purpose moisturizing oil or massage oil that can also be added to the bath. Alcohol-based infusions are used to make perfumes and after shave lotions.

Star anise (15g / 0.52oz): Star Anise, also called Chinese Star Anise and Star Aniseed, is a spice obtained from the fruits of an Asian shrub. It is so-named because the seed pods are star-shaped and contain a highly aromatic compound called anethole, which is responsible for the anise-like flavor of the spice. As a component of garam masala and Chinese Five-Spice Powder, star anise is a common seasoning in Indian and Asian foods. Whole star anise is also used in potpourri mixtures and tea blends. Use in marinades or rub into skin of meat before roasting. Whisk into rich winter soups, like sweet potato. Add to spice cakes. Infuse in tea.
